Toddler Beanie

Found some Caron Simply Soft yarn and fell in love with how soft it was!  I even put it up to my cheek just like my kids do with their favorite baby blankies!!  I made this hat to fit a child the size of my son, he is 15 months and barely let me put the hat on him! haha but we managed for a few seconds anyway.  All it took was 3 colors of Caron Simply Soft yarn, a G-hook, and a little bit of spare time!
Abbreviations: hdc- half double crochet   sts- stitches   slst- slip stitch  ch- chain

Row 1: 11 hdc in a magic ring, join
Row 2: ch1, 2 hdc in each stitch around, join
Row 3: ch1, 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in the next, around, join
Row 4: ch1, 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in the next 2, around, join
Row 5: ch1, 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in the next 3, around, join
Row 6: ch1, 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in the next 4, around, join
Row 7-19: ch1, 1 hdc in each around, join
I changed colors rows 13-17 (2,1,2)
Finish off and weave in ends

This hat would be very easy to make smaller or larger, all you have to do is decrease or increase the number of 'increase' rows in the beginning of the hat.  Enjoy!!! Until next time, Happy Hooking!!

  4. can you give an example of an "increase" for a child of age 9? I want to make this one for my 2 1/2 year old and a matching one for my 9 yr old... but i'm not sure how to increase the size. thank you :)

  5. Increase the size of the hook and add about 1/2 inch to the depth. If you are doing sc that would be a couple rows, only one row if dc. Bev's Country Cottage has size charts for kid's heads, so you can look at that to use as a measurement. Remember caps need to be slightly smaller than head circumference to fit correctly.

I have several kid's patterns on my blog.
